My burnout story
Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, I came to the U.S. for college and got my dream job working in U.S.-Colombia relations straight out of school. I loved what I did so much that I didn’t take a single vacation day my first year of work. I then worked for 8 years with the Arlington County Government, focusing on bilingual and emergency communications. After 17 years in the workforce, I was burned out, overworked, and struggling to stay motivated. Even though I was eating well and exercising, my unmanaged stress resulted in migraines, chronic insomnia, and a feeling of constant exhaustion. |
